For me, Sundays are about what is sacred. Beginning the day by praying about the upcoming church service was rewarding. So often I have had expectations about what the service should be like and what I should get out of it, but I haven’t prayed! Today’s service was exactly what I needed. I was conscious of trying to greet friends and to find out how they’re doing. I enjoyed a good laugh when my 3yo went nuts when an Elmo was prayed for. He kept repeating Elmo and said, “I like that!”
Cooking for my family was another sacred part of my day. I started off making dh (and myself) my favorite coffee drink and then made something new (cream cheese and raspberry tarts). We had a delicious lunch of sprouted hot dog buns spread with pizza sauce, turkey pepperoni and mozzarella toasted in the oven. My dd and I grocery shopped today and I decided that next week I would like to get my shopping done on Saturday if possible to reserve Sundays for more relaxed activities. I made another apple pie this afternoon that I am convinced would have won the pie contest last week. LOL The kids thought so too!
I am so thankful to God on this sacred Sunday for the many blessings I have: a healthy family, a continuing restoration of my health, spiritual growth in me and my family, a loving church home, and God’s abundant provision. May all your Sundays be sacred, too.
Some of my best Saturday memories are of enjoying cinnamon rolls and hot chocolate with my dad at a restaurant. Because I’m able to enjoy eating restaurant food again, I decided to start our practice of having special time with one child on a Saturday. What a sweet way to start the day! My 7yo and I enjoyed a tasty breakfast at Waffle House. I blogged more about that experience on WonderWomen.
We enjoyed a sweet afternoon playing tennis and Frisbee golf at the park and a sweet evening of homemade fries and wings.
My older boys were sweet to help me clean out the back storage room after dinner and we enjoyed a sweet evening listening to our book on tape while I gave haircuts. The savings I have from doing our family’s haircuts (I taught myself using a book) are certainly sweet. Hope your day is sweet, too!
As long as I can remember, I have associated Fridays with fun. So much so that I've gotten depressed if I had nothing fun to do on a Friday! There was no risk of that today. Here's what was fun about today:
My dd had a fun gymnastics class. She looked so grown up to me today and she was so obedient. Now THAT'S fun!
We had an outrageously fun day at a fossil museum and hiking trail. I don't know if I have ever experienced more beautiful weather in my life. My friend was aghast to see me eating wheat crackers. I guess I forgot to tell her that I can now eat anything I want!
I had fun talking smack with my neighbor who won the pie baking contest. She insists that she didn't even know what kind of apples to use. She just got "lucky."
What's more fun than having your dh home after a week? Not much!
The fun continued as we watched the older boys play flag football and then went out for a delicious dinner.
We are ending the evening listening to one of our Audible books, Catching Fire.
I thought this picture from today was a good Thanksgiving-ish shot! My dd enjoyed playing in the costume closet with her good pal this afternoon.
Today I am thankful for a delicious new recipe from Nourishing Traditions: waffles made from fermented spelt flour. They have a very different but yummy tang to them. I'm thankful my kids ate them, but deeply grateful that I can!
I so very thankful that despite lots of good reasons to be angry today, I wasn't. In fact, I have so much peace and joy and energy today. Thank you, God!
I am thankful for our new Spanish curriculum (Visual Link Spanish) that my kids are absolutely crazy about. The kids' friend is joining us in using it and we are thankful for him, too.
I am thankful for my friend, Shannon, today. I have enjoyed spending more time with her this summer. Her fun-loving spirit is like a fresh breeze in my life. I pray that she will know the wonderful healing that I have been given.
I am thankful for my friend, Deb, too. I got to be in her Truth Project Bible study tonight and we got to do a little gabbing. I don't know why she never looks at me like I'm nuts, but she doesn't. Blessed travels, dear friend!
I am thankful for silliness. My dd was mad at me tonight, but mostly she was just tired. How thankful I am that I went to her, not with my usual irritation, but with goofy jokes.
Finally, I am so thankful for the relationship I have with God. He is truly a Father, Husband, and Friend to me. I am so glad to be able to just be me with Him.
New things make me happy so today's list is Terrific rather than happy.
First, I think it's terrific that I am going without a picture. I took one, but don't feel like using one and that's OK!
Second, I got a bunch of things done for the presentation our friend, Dr. Carl Werner, will be doing for our church at the end of October.
Third, I am delighted that friends suggested we plan Trunk or Treating this October as well. I found out it was a week past the deadline to advertise it in the church's monthly newsletter. I decided to write something up and pray it might get put in anyway. It did!
Fourth, I wrote a new episode of God's Witness News, a video ministry I started with my kids and haven't done all summer. I'm praying my second son will agree to do it!
Fifth, I really enjoyed writing back and forth with my new friend, Jacqueline, today.
Sixth, I am so glad the kids picked up the basement and all without me ever getting mad.
Seventh, I am happy I have homemade yogurt brewing made with milk fresh from the farm.
Eighth, I spent time preparing for my first day as a Daisy troop leader tomorrow.
Ninth, I had a blast being my kids' personal trainer today.
Tenth, I was fascinated by our study of Pompeii in history today. Can't wait to get a video on the subject!
Finally, I have loved having no appointments today and that I still have time to read before bed! See you tomorrow and hope you have a terrific day, too.
